Discipline is the process of conditioning the mind and character in order to develop self-control. It enables an individual to develop habits of submission to authority, adherence to rules and regulations, patriotism, honesty, and self-satisfaction.

Discipline may also be defined as a mentality that results in ordered behavior and causes an individual to live up to society’s expectations.

1. Self-control

Disciplined individuals are not readily provoked. He maintains his composure in the face of provocation or rage. He is not arrogant or is easily swayed by external circumstances.

This is the quality of acting within the parameters of what is expected. It is a characteristic that causes an individual to adhere to established standards and refrain from abusing opportunities. When a student does not spend all of the available money, or when he consumes all of the food in the House rather leaves some for his siblings, he demonstrates moderation.

  5. Disciplined students respect school administrators and adhere to the school’s laws and rules. This helps students advance academically and improves teaching and learning in schools. Additionally, it fosters academic brilliance and examination success.
  6. Family success is a result of children’s disciplined behavior.
  7. It is critical that children inherit a discipline-oriented culture from their families. Children who have been disciplined are not deceptive or hostile. They study diligently and pass their examinations with flying colors. They pose no threat to the school or society.

  1. Individuals that lack discipline are extremely disorganized and wild. He shows a lack of respect for parents, elders, and established authority.
  2. He is dangerous and untrustworthy.
  3. He may indulge in one or more forms of anti-social behavior, such as smoking, stealing, or fighting.
  4. He may therefore resort to examination misconduct and other sorts of cheating when he does not pass his examinations.
  5. The generational effect is that the person loses focus and may develop into a social deviant, posing a societal problem.

 

Consequences on the society

  1. Indiscipline undermines social concord by encouraging social vices such as drug and alcohol addiction, cultism, prostitution, gangsterism, terrorism, and rebellion.
  2. Deficiency in development Citizens that lack discipline are typically unproductive and hence do not contribute to societal growth. Those in positions of authority are prone to be irresponsible and corrupt. They easily loot and misuse public funds intended for community development. As a result, indiscipline results in underdevelopment.
  3. Nothing functions properly in a society when citizens lack discipline. There is traffic chaos, congestion, and a high rate of motor vehicle accidents as a result of motorists’ frustration and other road users’ impatience.
  4. The majority of law enforcement agents, such as police officers, are corrupt and are more concerned with extorting money from citizens. False medications are prevalent because people are desperate to earn money at any cost. Arm robbery and kiddnaping is becoming in popularity for the same purpose.
  5. Elections are not conducted in a free and fair manner. Discipline promotes national development and social advancement.
  6. Citizen indiscipline results to disrespect for authority and a disregard for society’s values. Individuals dump refuse on a random basis, causing  environmental concerns such as dirty drainage, flooding, and air pollution.
  7. Citizens were involved in unethical commercial practices such as oil bunkering, counterfeiting, drug smuggling, and other illegal acts. Such a community would stay primitive.
